JoergDr. Jörg Thamm, Principal Veterinary Surgeon

Jörg gained his veterinary degree at the Berlin Vet School in Germany in 1995. He completed internships in Paris and New York and worked his first year in Spain. He then moved to the UK where he worked for the next 10 years. There he developed a special interest in orthopaedics and undertook some further training. In 2000 and 2001 he was running an internal orthopaedic referral service for all London practices of a large corporate practice. With the arrival of his first child, he and his Kiwi partner Julia Stanton-Jones decided to settle down, so they moved to Cornwall. Together they built up a three-centre clinic with a purpose-built hospital as the hub. 2 more children were born in Cornwall and in 2008 Jörg and Julia decided to sell up and move to New Zealand in order to embrace the great New Zealand lifestyle especially for the benefit of their 3 young children.

Jörg loves the NZ outdoor lifestyle and spends a lot of time exploring the natural beauty of New Zealand together with his family. He also enjoys windsurfing, mountain biking and is a keen skier.
Jörg and his family can be seen as slightly animal mad as they enjoy looking after Baron and Prince (2 horses), Cute smile and Wacko (2 guinea pigs), Lily and Minnie-magic (2 cats) and Abi our rescue dog.

JuliaJulia Stanton-Jones, Practice Manager.

Julia trained as a Veterinary Nurse at UNITEC Institute of Technology in 1994, then went on to work in small animal practice in Auckland. An opportunity arose to return to UNITEC as a Veterinary Nurse/Laboratory technician in 1995. Julia progressed to become a tutor on the Certificate in Veterinary Nursing course and then programme co-ordinator. In her spare time she became a volunteer Zookeeper at Auckland Zoo and eventually worked as a veterinary nurse there on the odd weekend and holidays. This experience influenced her decision to take a years sabbatical spending 6 months in Thailand as a volunteer for the Thai Society for the Protection of Wild Animals caring for bears, gibbons, elephants and 250 stray dogs! The following 6 months was spent in London as a Locum Veterinary Nurse where she met Jörg Thamm and then spent the next 7 years building up a 3 branch Veterinary practice in Cornwall.

Julia returned to New Zealand in 2008 and is happy to be living in beautiful Tauranga with her 3 children and collection of animals that she’s finally allowed to have!
